The only option is to wrassle

Zane knows his sister's got pretty good reasons for not coming to school much anymore, but he does genuinely miss her. There's no one to tease about the upcoming dance, or to beg for notes on the latest thing in class, or just someone that's reliable conversation. She shows up to math class sometimes, but Zane isn't even in that one, and Adanya's long stopped showing up to the others. Busy, and all.

But Zane isn't. And there is a dance coming up. He wants to go, but doesn't have a date - it's time to fix that. Unfortunately just asking people hasn't seemed to be working. He's been doing it a while, but either his personality, his daemon, or his sister have been putting them off and Zane continues to be without a date. That's cool, he's not going to get broken up about it, it's just kind of annoying. Because really, he's super fucking gorgeous, who the hell wouldn't want to go with him to a dance? Whatever.

School lets out, and Zane is expected to walk home, but he is of the opinion that he needs to let off some steam first. Staying indoors in classrooms for hours is bothersome, and he dislikes it immensely.

"Hey, Kit-kat," he says, to the jaguar beside him. "Want to wrassle?"

"Are you kidding?" snorts his daemon Nakitarine. She flicks her tail. "Of course I do."

And that is how Zane ends up wrassling his jaguar daemon just outside of the school, both of them laughing all of the while. Yeah, this probably doesn't help him get a date, either.

It may or may not have gotten him a date, but it did get him at least one spectator - a boy wearing his king cobra daemon looped several times around his neck, petting her scales absently with one hand while he giggles at Zane and Nakitarine.

"Ha, take that, you huge houseca-" begins Zane, triumphantly wrestling the jaguar to the ground. Except not really, because he is interrupted by her declining to both be on the ground and be defeated, and perches herself neatly on top of him once both of these things have been thoroughly declined. She was toying with him.

"Nope," she says, smugly. And then, to cement her victory, she licks his face.

"Ack! Ack! Pff- pthew!" is his reply. So, she moves on to mussing up his hair. Lick, lick. Little nibble.

"Ahhhhh noooo," laughs Zane, trying to shove her off of him. It really doesn't work.

"You're adorable," the boy calls out to them. His daemon continues giggling,

"Thanks!" says Zane brightly, finally getting the black jaguar off of him. He is now covered in black fur. Trying to brush it off does nothing.

"I usually win," his daemon proclaims smugly, swishing her tail. "It's fun."

"I'll get you eventually!"

"No," says Nakitarine, smugly. "You won't."

"I wanna try," declares the cobra.

"What - me, or her?" asks her human, amused.

"Either one," she says, bumping her nose affectionately against his cheek.

[kit_kat]

"Well, I'm fine with trying," shrugs the jaguar. "But you are venomous, and I am several times your size, so that might end in horrific death and also hospitalization."

"Also my sister would be upset!"

"And his sister would be upset."

"Psh," hisses the snake, and she unloops herself from around her human's neck and slithers off his shoulder and hits the ground as a lioness of comparable size to the jaguar. Then, apparently as an afterthought, tosses her head and becomes a very male lion. Her - his? - human scritches the daemon's newly acquired mane.

"Ooooo," says Kit-kat, purring. "Well in that case..."

She stretches a little, scratches her paws a bit on the sidewalk and then flicks her tail, circling the very male lion and looking very interested.

"That," says Zane, "is a cool trick, I didn't think it was possible to switch sexes even unsettled."

"It's not," clarifies his daemon, amused. "Or it wasn't for me. Aren't you special?" She doesn't sound particularly upset about this fact, more - intrigued. Because they are about to wrestle.

"I'm definitely special," the lion assures her.

He pounces with a laugh. His human watches them, grinning.

Nakitarine is delighted. Also, good at fighting. Has she mentioned she is good at fighting? She is. It would be a lie to say she's being gentle with her new sparring mate, but she's obviously in it for the fun of fighting over rampant sadism. Her claws are retractable, so they stay in (mostly, anyway, she doesn't use them on him, just for traction.) and she doesn't bite as hard as she could. But she does bite.

"Let me know," says Zane, snickering, "if I need to reign her in. Because I will. She's excited."

"Now why would I do that? This is fun," says the lion's human.

The lion also appears to be enjoying himself. Herself. And she's not staying a lion, either. Tiger, leopard, jaguar - he's staying in the general realm of felines about the same size as Nakitarine, but varying sex and species freely at apparent random within that constraint.

"Ha! It's so fun," he agrees. "But not everyone thinks so, so I'm making sure."

"Kind of you," observes the jaguar, amused as she is trying to tackle her sparring partner to the ground, "to stay in my weight class. Thank you."

"Well, that's sweet of you," says the human.

"I figured it's more fun if I'm fair," chirps the leopard, subsequently a tiger. "At least the first time. No promises - " wriggle, pounce " - if we do it again!"

[kit_kat]

"I try!" says Zane, with a flourishing bow.

"Ooo, I'll hold you to that!" laughs Nakitarine, tumbling on the ground with the now-tiger. "Because that sounds fun. But yeah, first fight, let's be fair, I haven't done this with another cat in ages!"

"How long's ages?" giggles the tiger.

The human also giggles. "Have I mentioned you're adorable? You're fucking adorable."

[kit_kat]

"And you," he laughs, "are really cute. Are you going to the dance with anyone? 'Cause if not, you can go with me if you want."

"Kerixan - my person's sister's daemon - settled years ago, and he's a tiny bird now, but before then I could sweet talk him into taking a cat form and wrassling. Since then," She swats at the tiger with a paw. "regular daemons to fight have been few and far between."

[aeskhyne]

"I'm pretty irregular!" says the tiger, who is now a lioness again. The paw hits. She bites playfully at it.

"I wasn't planning on going, but I could totally change my mind," says the human.

[kit_kat]

"And it's awesome!" cackles Nakitarine.

"If you do," says Zane, grinning, "let me know. Or not, no hard feelings if I'm not your type."

[aeskhyne]

"Dances aren't really my thing," says the human. "You seem like you could definitely be my thing."

Meanwhile, there continues not to be a clear winner in the cat wrestling. The unsettled-and-then-some leopard-tiger-lion is holding his or her own.

"Ooo," says Zane. "Well, then, in that case, don't worry about the dance unless you want to. Want to go on a date? Dunno where yet, somewhere fun?"

Nakitarine is also holding her own, adapting quickly to her changing opponent, but not well enough to manage anything more than keeping it at a solid stalemate. A really, really fun stalemate. She is giggling.

"We could totally go on a date! What do you like to eat? Bet you I can take you out for dinner to someplace awesome you've never heard of. I like walking around looking for new restaurants to try."

[kit_kat]

"I'm good with just about any food, long as it's not rotten or anything. New restaurants I've never heard of sounds like a lot of fun! I'm Zane, by the way, is there something I should call you besides, 'handsome as fuck' or should I stick with that?"

[aeskhyne]

"Well, I'm not gonna object to you calling me handsome as fuck, but my friends call me Rava." He points at the wrestling cats. "That's Mahal."

[kit_kat]

"Not objecting's not the same thing as wanting me to," points out Zane. "And if you don't want me to, I won't. That's Nakitarine. I call her Kit-kat."

"I was right, you are adorable. Wanna make out, or do you save that for after the first date?"
